Mother's arms

By Sarah, age 14

in the middle of the night, my eyes awake
i see nothing but darkness and fear overtakes
i cry for my mother, why isn't she here?
to wipe away my helpless tears!

a creak of the door, a swish of the night
my mother appears through the dark of the night
all fears have gone, i first realise
how much she loves me, by the look in her eyes.

wrapped like a blanket, cuddled up tight
warmth and love will protect me tonight
in my mother's arms all seems secure
for i know my mother's love is steadfast and sure.

i am her treasure, more precious than gold
she is the author, i'm her story being told
like a fairytale our wishes coming true
she whispers each night 'my wish is for you'.
