When you are first ill

When you are first ill

When you first become ill it is important that you or your parents/ carers let the school know straight away. If the school doesn't know why you are away they will phone you to find out why.

The staff in the school office will tell your teachers about your M.E. and make sure that your medical information is kept up to date. If your parents/ carers want to talk to your teacher about your illness they can plan a meeting through the school office.

If you are away for a few days you will need to get a medical certificate (sick note) from your doctor to give to your school.

It is important that you or your parents stay in contact with your teacher during the time you are ill, as this will help you to stay in touch with friends, find out what is happening and carry on feeling part of your school.

Maybe you could write to your class friends and tell them about how your M.E. makes you feel and how different parts of your body feel. This will help your friends understand why you cannot come to school.

If your M.E. gets worse when you do your school work, you may have to think about not doing any for a while and simply rest.
