If you have M.E. you will know how tired and frightened you can feel. That makes telling people about the abuse even harder because you probably feel really poorly.
But remember…if you don't tell someone about it- it won't stop. In fact, they will probably go on abusing you AND they might even start to abuse other children…you have to stop it!
- If the person you trusted to tell, won't listen don't give up. Sometimes grown ups get it wrong and don't deal with stuff the way they should. Find someone else to tell and don't stop until someone has listened.
- You might not believe this but, sometimes, when a child tells a member of the family about what is happening the adult feels frightened and confused. Because they are so scared they might shout at you, this is probably because they don't know what to do - but you do. Don't let anybody talk you into keeping it secret. REMEMBER…you can't keep secrets like this…ok!
- Make sure you stay away as much as possible from the person who is abusing you…always try to have someone else with you.
- You know…you can always call 999 if you are very frightened.
