Most young people growing up in the UK today live in happy homes and receive the love and support they need from their parents/ carers and wider family. If you have M.E., your family or carers can be your lifeline, ensuring that you are well cared for and helping you to manage your symptoms.
However, M.E. symptoms can leave some young people frail and vulnerable to abuse, and there are some people who will take advantage of this, often someone you know and trust. Being abused can make you feel frightened and alone. Being ill can prevent you from stopping the abuse because you may feel you have no opportunity to report your abuser or you may think that no one will believe you.
The information in this Keep safe section will help you to find out more about abuse, how to protect yourself, and how to get help if you need it.
